Radiation Finished!

Joseph finished today! We met with all our doctors one last time and they got us squared away to leave. First we met with our radiation oncologist, then he had his last radiation treatment, and finally he was checked out by the neuro-oncologists and he's done. Everyone was really happy with his overall condition; the only minor concern was some redness inside his ears, which they gave us some drops for. Right when we arrived, the sweet lady at the patient registration who signs us in for the day had a present waiting for him from his favorite place, Target. He got to pick from a selection of thomas the tank engine trains. She said she didn't know which ones to get and so she let him pick one out. He was so excited. He also got balloons and more presents from the radiation team. Everyone wanted to say goodbye to him. They have taken good care of him here and we are so thankful for a place like St. Judes.

We also have been taken care of here in Memphis. We can't thank Matt and Jennifer and WK enough for letting us live in their house and for Carol and Rick and Nancy for making it possible. It has been great living in the same city with my sister again, and she and her family will be sorely missed. Many thanks to those who have brought meals for us. We have had food just about every other day since we arrived and we received the last one tonight. We keep using the word overwhelming, and since my thesaurus is back in atlanta, I have to say that all the support we have received is truly overwhelming.


After the pictures of his last day are some pictures from our outing to the Mississipi River on Sunday with Jennifer, Matt, and WK. Joseph loves throwing things into water and the endless supply of driftwood provided plenty of ammunition.

Loved seeing the videos! I miss you all so much.
Joseph, Mimi is so proud of you. How did you get so brave?? How did your mom and dad get so brave?? We have to thank God for the strength he has given you all. I am sending you all a hug right now...a real big one.
Remember what Mimi showed you, Joseph?... How much does Mimi love you? When your mom and dad ask you, show them how much! That's how much I love your mom and dad, too. And guess what?? God loves us a million miles wider than that!
I'll be praying tomorrow as you all travel back to Georgia. Jennifer, Matt, and Winnie Kate are going to miss you more than words can say. Have fun on the plane trip, Joe and Mom. And Allen, I pray the trip goes by fast as you drive alone.

Praise God! I remember our last day in the hospital, the preparation to leave and the drive home. It was unreal. We couldn't believe that we were done with that chapter. The chapters ahead were unknown and that was a bit scary, but God is good and has taken care of us the whole way. I pray the same for you all, and for healing for Joseph.

Joseph, you and Daddy are so funny--you could have a funny show for kids, because you make all of us laugh here at our house. Did you know that God has given you so much courage? More than a pirate, even! Walking the plank or sailing the trecherous seas would be nothing compared to what you have done, Pirate Joe P!

What a way to finish, Joe P.!!! I know that you all are relieved to be able to go home. Praise God for the way that you all were loved so well. Great to hear things going well and what a brave Joseph and strong parents you are. I 2nd Mimi with how proud of you all and amazed with your courage I am. I LOVE the pictures and videos (Allen/Joe should take their show on the road). Abigail could hardly sleep last night she SOO EXCITED(giddy would be the best word) to see Joseph tonight. We are sooooo glad everyone arrived safely Joe P. way to go sleeping on the plane and you wondered why it was so fast!!I hope you know we think you are the best guy in the whole world!!Holly is snuggled up in bed with countless dollies two books and two cups of water she probably figures she will get thirsty after reading and talking to her dollies!!She has become a big basketball fan two nights in a row watching Cpa basketball!Sleep sound in Jesus lots of love and kisses Nana Grandad Davey and Holly bear.

We are so thrilled you're back in Atlanta !! What a wonderfully strong and brave family you are. Joe P., you have an amazing mommy and daddy !! And you are amazing too Joseph !! I agree with Mimi's friend, Mrs. Fotenot, you are braver than any pirate I know of !! Captain Hook would be shaking in his boots !! I loved the lightning McQueen pajamas. (They should make those for Mommies and Daddies.) I also loved the fact that Ramone is your favorite car. I think he gets overlooked for the most fabulous Lightning and Sally.
